Bring reference rates into your workflow
Use QVeris to find exchange-rate tools for budgeting, reporting and currency conversion. Start with the currencies you need and the date convention your task requires. The NBP reference-rate tool provides a concrete way to look up a published rate and carry its source into a calculation.
For example, a supplier quotes an amount in USD while your team plans a budget in PLN. A reference-rate workflow can return the rate, its publication date and the arithmetic behind the estimated PLN amount. That gives a reviewer enough information to update the calculation when the rate changes.
This example focuses on published reference rates. If your application needs a tradable bid and ask, a continuous feed or a broker execution price, inspect a capability that explicitly serves that requirement.
Make the rate direction explicit
| Item | For the USD-to-PLN example |
|---|---|
| Input amount | The supplier’s amount in USD |
| Rate meaning | PLN per 1 USD in the selected NBP table |
| Conversion | USD amount × PLN per USD = PLN amount |
| Time context | The actual publication date returned by the source |
For a hypothetical arithmetic check only, 1,000 USD multiplied by an assumed 4.00 PLN per USD equals 4,000 PLN. These numbers illustrate the formula and are not a current exchange-rate quote. Replace the assumed rate with the actual returned value before using the calculation.
Writing the units beside the multiplication is a simple way to catch an inverted currency pair. When converting in the opposite direction, verify that taking the reciprocal is appropriate for the rate type being used.
Retrieve the latest published reference rate
Inspect the selected NBP tool and use this parameter object to request the latest available table A USD rate:
{
"table": "A",
"code": "USD",
"topCount": 1,
"format": "json"
}The NBP API documentation distinguishes average-rate tables A/B from table C buy/sell rates, and explains publication dates. “Latest available” can refer to a prior business day. Keep the returned date rather than replacing it with today’s date.
Use the USD-to-PLN conversion task to turn the result into a budget note, or connect the same capability through the API documentation when your system needs repeatable conversions.
Use reference and transaction rates correctly
A published reference rate gives a consistent basis for a comparison or estimate. A bank payment quote can include a spread, fees and a specific validity window. Label a reference-rate calculation as an estimate and keep any payment costs in separate fields.
For accounting or a contractual conversion, use the date and rate source required by the applicable policy or agreement. A convenient latest rate should not silently replace a transaction-date rate. If no observation exists for the requested date, follow an explicit fallback policy and record which date was actually used.
A source table may cover a defined set of currencies against its domestic currency rather than every possible pair. For cross-rates, verify both legs use compatible dates and definitions before calculating the ratio.
Save a conversion that can be checked later
Keep the input amount, currencies, rate, publication date, formula and output amount together. Preserve calculation precision internally and apply display rounding at the end. If a calculation is reused in a report, keep the source rate rather than recalculating the old result with each new refresh.
Add economic data when a report needs macro context, and use the Python integration pattern for repeated requests with the FX tool’s own parameters. See QVeris pricing for trial terms and call costs before increasing refresh frequency.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a live forex trading feed?
The example uses NBP published reference rates. A live market feed or execution quote is a separate data requirement.
Does a reference conversion include bank fees?
No. Add actual fees and spreads separately when you have a bank or payment-provider quote.
Estimate a 1,000 USD supplier quote in PLN
Open the prefilled QVeris task to retrieve the latest available NBP table A USD reference rate. It will show PLN per USD, the publication date, source and formula, then calculate the estimated PLN amount excluding bank fees and spreads.
A supplier quoted 1,000 USD and my budget is in PLN. Use QVeris to inspect and retrieve the latest available NBP table A USD reference rate. Show the rate as PLN per 1 USD, publication date, source and calculation. Produce the estimated PLN amount and a one-sentence budget note. Exclude bank fees and spreads, and make clear that this is a reference estimate. Respond in English.
